Introducing Yipiyap’s Latest Service

The past decade of Yipiyap’s life-changing peer tutoring has proven one thing beyond a shadow of a doubt: when learners are supported by a relatable peer who can speak their language, their academics come on leaps and bounds.

But beyond academic progress and grade improvements, we’ve seen how else peer tutoring can change young people’s lives.

Confidence. Autonomy. Love of learning. And - whisper it - even a love of school.

That’s why September 2024 will see the launch of Yipiyap’s next project: Peerscroller.

What is Peerscroller?

Peerscroller is an e-learning solution that distils those intangible, social and emotional benefits of peer tutoring into bite-sized videos, both in class and in app.

With Peerscroller, Yipiyap’s relatable peer mentors bring their engaging and approachable style out of academics and into personal, social, health and economic learning (PSHE). Learners are engaged by tutors who speak their language, in short-form videos that capture the familiar appeal of apps like TikTok and Instagram.

And we tackle the topics your learners need to know about, whether that’s PSHE curriculum content or a trustworthy source of advice on up-to-the-minute topics like attendance, vaping, digital wellbeing, and more.

All that means you’re equipping your learners with the skills and knowledge for wellbeing and academic success.

How does Peerscroller work?

There are two ways to access Peerscroller: via the custom-built mobile app, available on iOS and Android, and via the web portal.

Learners (and their parents) can access Peerscroller via the app, where they can scroll through recommended videos, or browse and search for a specific topic of concern. All the content on the app is created by Yipiyap, so we can ensure it is accurate and high-quality. There are no user submissions.

Teachers can log onto Peerscroller on any device via the web portal. This makes it easy to show videos in class or form time.

School staff are also able to assign recommended videos to a class or specific learner, which will appear in that user’s app next time they log on.

Here are just a few of the ways schools and colleges can make use of Peerscroller:

Is Peerscroller trustworthy?

Yes - that’s the whole idea. We know that learners need information on what’s happening in their lives. Peerscroller gives them a trustworthy, one-stop shop to turn to, dressed up with all the appeal of their favourite social media apps.

Peerscroller’s app and content have been designed from the ground up to create a safe environment your learners can explore, adhering to Department for Education guidelines, as well as the PSHE Association’s curriculum, the ICO’s Age Appropriate Design Code, and Keeping Children Safe in Education.

Why is Peerscroller so effective at engaging learners?

Gen Z consume media unlike any generation before them. Outside of school, young people are used to fast-paced, scrollable snippets of information. And while the need for long-form literacy will never go away, it’s time to acknowledge: if you’re delivering vital information about health and wellbeing, it needs to be in their language.

Peerscroller delivers reliable information in a package familiar to the social media generation. Short-form videos are devised, researched, and fact-checked by our writing team, and delivered by the kind of relatable peer that your learners are used to watching on TikTok or Instagram.

The result? Curriculum-ticking PSHE content, that your learners will WANT to engage with.

When will Peerscroller launch?

Peerscroller is set to launch in September 2024, ready for the new academic year.

At launch, Peerscroller will deliver content for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, on topics across the PSHE curriculum. New videos will release each week, with Key Stage 5 support beginning in 2025.
